The Grove, a thriving business district along Manchester between Kingshighway and Vandeventer in St. Louis City, is centrally located in Forest Park Southeast, minutes away from Forest Park, Barnes Jewish Hospital, and Tower Grove Park.
The Grove business district features a diversity of businesses, including bars, restaurants, hair salons, tattoo parlors, an architecture firm, book stores, a gift shop, dress shops, and much more.
The Grove was originally called Adam’s Grove in the 1850s and served as a bustling commercial district. It has since then experienced urban decline, but in the last years, thanks to community members devoted to filling up one vacant storefront at a time, has become a true testament to revitalization in St. Louis. The name “The Grove” was coined due to collaboration of various community members in an effort to re-brand the growing commercial district.
Historically, one of The Grove’s most prominent buildings and businesses was the Manchester Theater. A mainstay for local residents, the Theater was located at 4247 Manchester from 1922 to 1967 and housed 1,546 seats. On summer nights, the theater brought seats outdoors for people to watch the movies and played movies like Creature From The Blue Lagoon for 35 cents. The theater along with its marquee sign were torn down in the mid 1970′s and today is the location of the parking lot next to The Gramophone.
The Grove is also known for its diverse community. It is comprised of several LGBT friendly businesses, several of which began the increasing investment in the area starting with Attitudes Night Club, which opened in the 1980s, followed by Rehab, Just John, and Novak’s Bar & Grill. The commercial district continues to expand westward today.
Currently, The Grove is made up of over 50 businesses and several organizations devoted to improving the vitality of the area, including The Grove Community Improvement District, Washington University Medical Center Redevelopment Corporation, Park Central Development, Forest Park South Business Association, Restoration St. Louis, and more.

We started our exploration at Randy's Recycled Cycles. Rick got a new bike lock like the one I bought the day before. They had charged me twice for the lock and not at all for the mirror so we went back to get that straightened out. I thought that they were very helpful here, although Randy can come off a little rough and has earned some not so great Yelp reviews as a result. Some people are not the super friendly type and that is ok. He has some very cool rehabbed bikes and a good supply of equipment that is not overpriced. The other employees have been friendly and helpful. The shop itself is cool and they made sure our needs were met plus they have free bike parking in the back.

This is our neighborhood post office for our zip code and a highly recommended one! I have been going to this post office since 2007 where they are always friendly and rarely is there a wait. It is just a short 1 mile from our house, close enough to walk or bike. There is always plenty of parking & they have a bike stand. It is right next door to Randy's Recycled Cycles.
